Your classroom teachers have communicated the point values their students should earn this quarter, and so it’s the moment you’ve waited for….access to your student’s Accelerated Reader account.  Here you can view his/her accumulated points and book levels, and view progress.

In first and second grades, classes are looking for classroom success and teamwork—your student will not have an individual goal posted to his/her account.

Use the following link to access Accelerated Reader:

  1. Click on Parent
  2. User Name
  3. Password
  4. Drop down box shows which child is being reported
  • Use Renaissance Place School to Home Report for complete information
  • The Accelerated Reader reports are broken down into smaller components
  • Don’t use the “back button”
  • When viewing quiz list, it’s a good idea to set book level parameters, since the list is so vast.
  • Always Log Out before closing.

Accelerated Reader FAQs

What is A/R?
Accelerated Reader is a program that couples students’ natural interest in technology with reading practice to increase their skills in both areas.  Students read books and take short computer-based tests that check their comprehension.  The program tracks their progress (in both quality and quantity) and awards points for successful completion of these tasks.  St. Patrick’s PTO provides the support for this popular program.  Last spring, in response to hardware and network problems related to the size of the program, the PTO invested in an upgrade with two major benefits; more tests for students and parental access of student progress.

How can my child participate?
At St. Pat’s every teacher uses Accelerated Reader to complement her reading instruction, but every teacher uses a different approach, and will have different requirements and expectations.  Your teacher will inform you of when and how she will use A/R in the classroom.

Is A/R only for classroom enrichment?
No, A/R is for any independent reader in grades 1-5 who has experience with the program.  The PTO helps support the program by providing parental supervision for test-taking and by organizing points-for-prizes incentives throughout the year.  First grade teachers typically encourage use by the first or second quarter, as their students grow.  Kindergarten use is on a case-by-case basis.

Where do parents fit in?
Parents can access a parent page to see their child’s progress.  Fill out the form below to begin the process.  Return it to school in care of Mrs. Lehmuller in the library. Your user name and instructions for access will be sent to you via email once the data is input.

When can we start?
Wait for your classroom teachers.  They will provide reminders about how to use the program correctly, talk to students about picking a “just right book”, and discuss the difference between classroom goals and points-for-prizes goals.  For those students who are ready to begin the program, the A/R Lab opens September 17. A/R tests can be taken each morning in the Library from 7:30am to 7:50am.
